Installation

From Source

1. Clone the repository:

   git clone https://github.com/vantage-sh/vantage-mcp-server

2. Build the server:

   go build -o vantage-mcp-server
   chmod +x vantage-mcp-server

Debugging

Use the MCP inspector to debug your setup:

npx @modelcontextprotocol/inspector -e VANTAGE_BEARER_TOKEN=<token> ./vantage-mcp-server

Setting Up MCP Clients

Here's how to set up the Vantage MCP Server with popular MCP clients:

Claude for Desktop

1. Download Claude for Desktop.
2. Open Settings (Command + ,).
3. Select Developer and click Edit Config.
4. Update claude_desktop_config.json with your server path and API token:

5. Restart Claude and approve the tools when prompted.

Cursor

1. Download Cursor.
2. Open Cursor Settings.
3. Select MCP and click Add new global MCP Server.
4. Update mcp.json with your server path and API token like above.

Goose

1. Download Goose.
2. Open Goose Settings.
3. Add a custom extension:
   • ID: vantage-mcp-server
   • Name: Vantage
   • Description: Query costs and usage data
   • Command: Path to the Vantage MCP Server binary.
   • Environment Variables: VANTAGE_BEARER_TOKEN with your Vantage API token.

MacOS Note

If you encounter issues running the executable, go to System Settings -> Privacy and Security, and click "open anyway" for vantage-mcp-server-macos.
